Heavenly - Top of Tram
πΊπΈ Florida Β· United States β Altitude 2789 m
This live camera looks out from the top of the Heavenly gondola at roughly 2,789 metres, on the mountain rising above South Lake Tahoe. It is useful for judging snow, cloud and visibility before heading up the mountain, or simply for watching the Sierra Nevada weather roll across the lake basin.
Heavenly sits on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada, directly above the south shore of Lake Tahoe, the large alpine lake that straddles the California and Nevada border. The resort is one of the best known ski areas in the western United States, and its upper terminal gives an open panorama over the lake, the surrounding peaks and the town below. The air is thin and the landscape is dominated by granite, conifers and deep blue water.
The camera is mounted at the top of the tram, so the image is shaped by the mountain itself rather than by a street or harbour. Its position suggests that changes in cloud, snow cover and light are the main things to follow. Mornings often bring clear views across the lake before afternoon clouds build over the peaks. In winter the slopes may appear white and busy, while in summer the scene is greener and more open, depending on conditions on the day.
The climate is alpine, with cold winters and heavy snowfall from roughly December to March, and warm, dry summers that suit hiking and lake trips. Nearby cameras on the same mountain include East Peak and Top of Dipper, while South Lake Tahoe and Edgewood Tahoe Resort offer lakeside views a few kilometres away. Check the live weather on this page before travelling, as mountain conditions can change quickly.
Because the camera is high and exposed, it is worth keeping an eye on wind and visibility as well as snow. The live stream is provided by the resort at skiheavenly.com, which is linked from this page.
