Lienz — Zettersfeld view of the Lienz Dolomites

Lienz - Zettersfeld - vue sur les Dolomites de Lienz

🇦🇹 Tyrol · Austria — Altitude 1750 m

Local time UTC+1Checked 0 viewsHDMountains

This camera looks out from Zettersfeld, a mountain above the Austrian town of Lienz in East Tyrol, toward the peaks of the Lienz Dolomites. It is useful for seeing how the high ridges look before you go up, or for checking whether cloud is sitting on the summits. The stream is provided by its owner, foto-webcam.eu.

A town between valley and peaks

Lienz sits in the Drau valley at the eastern end of Tyrol, close to the border with Carinthia and Italy. It is the main town of East Tyrol and a base for walking and skiing in the Lienz Dolomites, a limestone range of sharp summits and wide alpine meadows. The valley floor is green and farmed, while the mountains rise steeply above it, so the contrast between town and high country is what most visitors come for.

What the view shows and when to watch

The title names the Dolomites, so the view is expected to be mountain ridges and sky rather than town streets. Depending on the view, you may see snow on the summits in winter and spring, bare rock and meadows in summer, and cloud building over the peaks in the afternoon. Early mornings often give the clearest air, and the light on the peaks is strongest at sunrise and sunset.

Practical notes and nearby views

Lienz has a continental alpine climate with warm summers and cold, snowy winters, and the mountain location means conditions up high can differ a lot from the valley. Summer is best for hiking, and winter for skiing at the nearby ski area. VizCams lists other cameras in the area, including the Faschingalm ski area just below this viewpoint and the Winklern and Feldkopf views a few kilometres away.
