Mörtschach - Lorenzalm - vue vers le nord
🇦🇹 Carinthia · Austria — Altitude 1400 m
This camera looks north from the Lorenzalm, an alpine spot above Mörtschach in the Carinthian part of the Gail valley. It is useful for seeing how the mountains look right now, whether cloud is sitting on the ridges, and how much snow remains at altitude. The live player below is provided by the camera owner, and the local weather and time are shown beside it.
Mörtschach is a small village in the Mölltal and Gail area of Carinthia, sitting at a meeting point of valleys in the Hohe Tauern and Lienz Dolomites range. The surroundings are shaped by forests, alpine meadows and steep slopes, and the village is known mainly as a base for walking, cycling and quiet mountain holidays rather than for big-city amenities. Its character is rural and traditional, with farms and chalets spread across the hillsides.
Because the view faces north, the light is softest in the morning and the mountain faces stay in shadow for much of the day, which makes them readable in changing weather. Depending on the conditions, you may see clouds rolling along the ridgelines, fresh snow on higher peaks, or clear air after a front has passed. Early morning and late afternoon are often the most interesting times to check the view, especially in spring and autumn.
Summers are mild and pleasant for hiking at this altitude of roughly 1400 metres, while winters bring reliable snow and cold conditions. Late June to September is generally the best period to visit for walking. Nearby cameras in the region include the Mörtschachberg view toward the Lienz Dolomites, the Penzelberg view east from Winklern, and two views from Rangersdorf, which help you compare conditions across the valley.
