Khlong Yai - GISTDA Coastal Radar
πΉπ Trat Province Β· Thailand β Altitude 6 m
This live stream from the GISTDA coastal radar network looks out over the Gulf of Thailand near Khlong Yai, the border town at the eastern edge of Trat Province. It is a useful place to check the sea and sky before planning a trip along this quiet stretch of coast.
Khlong Yai sits at the far eastern corner of Thailand, where the country meets Cambodia and the Gulf of Thailand opens to the south. The town is a crossing point and a gateway to the islands of Trat, with a low, flat landscape of fishing villages, mangroves and rubber and fruit plantations behind the shore. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried compared with the busier resort towns further west.
Because the camera belongs to a coastal radar network, its interest lies mainly in the water and the sky rather than in street life. Depending on the view, you may see boat traffic, the colour and state of the sea, and cloud build-up over the gulf. Mornings tend to be clearer and calmer, while afternoon clouds and rain showers are more common, especially during the wet season.
The region has a tropical climate with a hot, humid year and a rainy season from roughly May to October, when seas can be rougher. The dry months from November to April are generally the most comfortable for boat trips to the islands. Nearby cameras on the same network cover Koh Chang, Klaeng, Rayong and Pattaya, which can help you compare conditions along the coast.
