🇰🇬 Issyk-Kul Region · Kyrgyzstan — Altitude 2200 m
This live camera looks out over Karkara, a small mountain settlement in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan at roughly 2,200 metres above sea level. It is useful for anyone curious about high-altitude conditions in the Tien Shan, or planning a trip to the Issyk-Kul area and wanting to see the sky and light before arriving.
Karkara sits in the valleys of the Terskey Ala-Too range, on the southern side of Issyk-Kul, the large lake that is among the biggest high-altitude lakes in the world. The landscape is defined by steep slopes, pastures used for grazing and the wide alpine air. Karkara is best known as a gateway to mountain routes and a base for people exploring the eastern shore of the lake.
Because the camera is listed in the mountain category, the view is most likely dominated by ridgelines, slopes and open sky rather than urban activity. Depending on the angle, you may see cloud building over the peaks in the afternoon, snow on higher ground for much of the year, and changing light at sunrise and sunset. Clear mornings tend to give the sharpest views of the surrounding mountains.
The region has a continental climate with cold winters and warm, dry summers, and temperatures can shift quickly between day and night at this altitude. Summer, roughly June to September, is generally the most practical time to visit. Several other live cameras in the region, including those in Karakol, Tyup and Ysyk Kol, can help you compare conditions across the area before you travel.
