Zugspitze - Station météo - vue sur le Zugspitzplatt vers le sud
🇩🇪 Bavaria · Germany — Altitude 2970 m
This camera sits on the summit of Germany's highest mountain and looks south over the Zugspitzplatt, a broad rocky plateau in the Wetterstein range. It is useful for anyone wondering what conditions are like at the top of the Bavarian Alps before a visit or a hike.
The Zugspitze rises to 2,970 metres on the border between Germany and Austria, close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria. The summit is famous for its weather station and for its views across the Alps, and the high plateau below it is bare, pale limestone shaped by long winters and fast-changing cloud. Because the peak stands alone above the surrounding valleys, it often catches weather fronts first, so the sky can change within minutes.
The title names a view toward the south over the plateau, so the frame is mostly open ground and distant peaks rather than buildings. Depending on the cloud, you may see snowfields, rock faces and layers of cloud moving through the valleys. Early mornings and late afternoons often bring the clearest light, while cloud banks rolling up from the valleys can make the scene change quickly.
Summer is the usual season for visiting, though snow can fall at the top in any month, so conditions are worth checking before you go. Access is normally by cable car from the Alpine foothills. Other cameras on the same summit, including views east, north and down the Höllental, are listed on this page and help you compare conditions from different sides of the mountain.
