Tignes - Lac de Tignes
🇫🇷 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes · France — Altitude 2120 m
This camera looks over Lac de Tignes, a reservoir lake high in the Tarentaise Alps at about 2,120 metres. People watch it to judge the mountain conditions, the light on the water and the snow levels before planning a trip. The live player below is the view from the source, with local weather and time shown on this page.
Tignes sits in the Savoie department of the French Alps, above the Isère valley, and is one of the best-known ski areas in the country. Lac de Tignes is an artificial reservoir created by a hydroelectric dam, and its shoreline and surrounding peaks give the resort a wide, open high-mountain character. The village has grown up around the lake, so the water is the visual centre of the area in every season.
The camera shows the lake, the surrounding slopes and the sky over the mountains, so changes in cloud, snow cover and light are the main things to follow. Early morning and late afternoon tend to bring the most dramatic light on the peaks. In winter the slopes turn white and the lake may partly freeze, while summer and early autumn show greener shores and clearer views. Conditions depend on the weather at any given moment.
Tignes has a high-alpine climate, with cold winters and snow from roughly late autumn to spring, and mild, often sunny summers suited to hiking. Late June to September is the usual choice for walking, while December to April is the season for skiing. Other cameras nearby include Val Claret, Les Boisses at 1800 and Brévières, and Val d'Isère's Bellevarde is a short drive away.
