Lucknerhaus - Vue sur le Großglockner
🇦🇹 Tyrol · Austria — Altitude 1920 m
This camera looks toward Austria's highest mountain from the Lucknerhaus, a mountain hotel in the Hohe Tauern range. It is a useful way to check how clear the peak is before planning a hike or drive into the Glockner area.
Lucknerhaus stands at about 1,920 metres in the Hohe Tauern National Park, in the state of Tyrol. The Großglockner, at roughly 3,798 metres, is the highest peak in Austria and dominates the surroundings with glaciers, steep rock faces and wide valley meadows. The area is known as a base for alpine walking and as the starting point for the Großglockner High Alpine Road, one of the country's best-known scenic routes.
The camera is aimed at the mountain itself, so the main thing to watch is cloud cover around the summit. Mornings often bring the clearest air before clouds build over the peaks in the afternoon, especially in summer. Changes in snow cover are most visible in late spring and autumn. Depending on the view, you may also see weather fronts moving through the valleys.
The Glockner region has a cool alpine climate, and temperatures at this altitude can be much lower than in the valleys even in summer. Summer is the main season for walking and the mountain road, while winter brings skiing and snowshoeing. Nearby cameras on VizCams cover Glocknerwinkel, Kals and Adlersruhe, which help you compare conditions at different heights and directions.
