City of Superior - AMI (Basin) , Wisconsin
πΊπΈ Wisconsin Β· United States β Altitude 184 m
This live camera looks over the AMI Basin in the City of Superior, on the western tip of Lake Superior. It is useful for anyone wondering how the harbor and lake look right now, or whether conditions are changing before a visit or a trip across the water. The embedded player below streams directly from its source.
Superior sits at the head of Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake by surface area in the world, and forms a twin port with Duluth across the St. Louis River estuary. The city grew around shipping, grain elevators and iron ore traffic, and that industrial heritage still shapes the waterfront. The landscape is a mix of harbor, wetlands and forested hills, with the lake setting the mood of the whole area.
The view centers on the basin and its surroundings, so you may see ships, water movement, sky and weather changing over the lake. Activity is usually most interesting in the warmer months, when shipping and boating are at their busiest, and during the morning or evening when light is low and clouds stand out. Clear days give the best sight lines, while fog or storms can quickly reduce visibility.
Winters are long and cold with heavy snow, and summers are mild, often cooler than inland cities because of the lake. Late spring through early autumn is the most pleasant period to visit. Duluth, just across the bridge, has several other live cameras, including the PPMI Mast Cam, Beach, Bridge and Great Lake Aquarium views, which show the same waters from different angles.
