This live stream looks out over Mt Hood Meadow on the flanks of Mount Hood, the highest peak in Oregon. It is useful for checking snow and visibility before a trip or simply watching mountain weather roll across the slopes.
Mount Hood is a dormant volcano in the Cascade Range, about 80 kilometres east of Portland. Mt Hood Meadow sits at roughly 1,640 metres on its southwestern side and is one of the best-known ski areas in the Pacific Northwest. The surrounding forests of fir and hemlock and the glaciated summit give the area a strong alpine character that changes sharply with the seasons.
The view is from a mountain location, so the picture mainly depends on cloud, snowfall and light. Winter and early spring are usually the most interesting periods, when the slopes are covered and conditions shift quickly. Clear mornings tend to offer the sharpest view of the upper mountain, while afternoon cloud often builds over the peak. The stream is provided by its owner and may be interrupted at times.
Winters are cold and snowy, while summers are mild and dry, with warm days and cool nights at elevation. Snow can arrive early and linger late, so road and chain conditions matter. Government Camp, about 8 kilometres away, is the closest village and has lodging and services. Other nearby cameras are listed on this page for comparing conditions across the region.
