This live camera looks out over Mars Hill, a college town in the mountains of western North Carolina. Watch the view as it updates and check conditions before you plan a drive into the Blue Ridge foothills. The page also shows local time and a short forecast.
Mars Hill sits at roughly 1,200 metres in the Appalachian highlands, close to the Tennessee border. It is best known as the home of Mars Hill University, a small Baptist-affiliated college that gives the town its character. The surrounding landscape is rolling ridges, pastures and dense hardwood forest, with a quiet, small-town atmosphere that changes noticeably with the seasons.
The camera shows a mountain view, so the most rewarding moments are usually early morning, when valley mist may gather, and late afternoon, when the ridges take on warm light. Autumn colours in October are a popular reason to check in, while winter often brings clear, crisp days with a dusting of snow on higher ground. Depending on the view and visibility, you may also notice passing clouds moving quickly across the hills.
Mars Hill has a cool mountain climate, with warm summers, cold winters and fairly frequent rain throughout the year. Spring and early autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit. Nearby, you can compare views from Jonesborough, Elisabethton, Johnson City and Asheville, all within about 50 kilometres, to get a sense of conditions across the region.
