This live camera looks out over Sky Valley, a small resort community in the North Georgia mountains at about 1,030 metres above sea level. It is useful for checking the mountain conditions before you travel or simply for watching the changing light over the ridges.
Sky Valley sits in the Blue Ridge foothills of northeastern Georgia, close to the North Carolina border. The region is known for forested slopes, rivers, waterfalls and quiet valley roads, and it draws hikers, cyclists and people who want a retreat away from the bigger cities. The terrain is steep and wooded, so the view changes a lot with altitude and the season.
The stream is labelled as a nature view, so expect a wide outlook over the mountains and trees rather than a close street scene. Views are often clearest in the morning, when valley mist may lift, and in autumn, when the hardwood forests change colour. Low cloud or fog can cover the ridges for hours, so the live picture is a good way to check before you plan a drive.
The area has a humid subtropical climate at lower elevations, with warm summers and mild winters, while higher ground can be cooler and sometimes sees snow in winter. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit. Other live views in the region include Scaly Mountain Outdoor Center, Glenville, Hiawassee at Lake Chatuge and the Toccoa Georgia Skycam South.
