This live camera looks out over Winslow, a railroad town on the high plateau of northeastern Arizona. The stream is a continuous YouTube broadcast, so you can check the sky, traffic and light conditions before planning a drive through the region.
Winslow sits at roughly 1,480 metres in the Little Colorado River valley, on the old Route 66 corridor. The surrounding country is open high desert with juniper, sagebrush and wide horizons, and the nearby Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park are within easy reach. The town grew around the railway and still reflects that history in its architecture and its Route 66 landmarks.
As a mountain-category stream from an elevated desert site, the camera is most useful for weather: approaching storms, dust, snow in winter and the changing colour of the land at sunrise and sunset. Depending on the view you may see passing traffic and the open sky above the plateau. Early morning and late afternoon usually give the clearest light and the best sense of conditions.
Days are warm in summer and cool to cold in winter, and nights can be chilly all year because of the altitude. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for visiting. The page also links to nearby cameras at Joseph City, Munds Park, Flagstaff and Snowbowl, which help you compare conditions across the region.
