🇨🇭 Vaud · Switzerland — Altitude 1465 m
This camera points at the Refuge Solalex, a mountain hut above the village of Gryon in the Vaud Alps at roughly 1,465 metres. It is useful for anyone planning a day in the Portes du Soleil area who wants to check conditions before setting out. The live player is embedded from the source, so the picture you see is theirs.
Gryon sits on a sunny terrace in the Ormont region of the canton of Vaud, looking across the valley towards the Diablerets range. It is a traditional Alpine village known for its wooden chalets and for winter sports on the nearby slopes. In summer the meadows and walking paths draw hikers, and the surrounding ridges give wide views over the valley below and the peaks beyond.
The view from a mountain refuge changes with the light and the weather, so the picture is most interesting in the early morning when peaks catch the first sun, and in the late afternoon when shadows lengthen across the valley. Cloud often builds over the ridges during summer afternoons. Depending on the view at the time, you may see mountain pastures, passing hikers, or clouds sweeping across the slopes.
Gryon has a mountain climate with cool summers, snowy winters and noticeably changeable weather at altitude. Late spring and early autumn are often clear, while July and August bring the most walking and the longest days. The village is reached by road from Bex and Aigle, and nearby cameras at Frience, Les Chaux, Les Diablerets and Meilleret show other points along the same mountain area.
