Derborence - Refuge du Lac de Derborence
π¨π Valais Β· Switzerland β Altitude 1462 m
This camera looks out from the refuge beside Lac de Derborence, a high-altitude lake in the Valais Alps of Switzerland. It is useful for checking how the mountain light and cloud are behaving before you plan a walk to the water. The live player is paired with the local weather and time shown on this page.
Derborence sits in the canton of Valais, in a basin of the Alps that was reshaped by a major rockfall centuries ago. The lake and the surrounding forest lie in a deep, quiet setting, with steep limestone walls rising around it. The area is known as a wild, sparsely populated part of Switzerland, where the mountains feel close and the air is noticeably cooler than in the valleys below.
The view is most interesting in the early morning, when mist may lift off the water, and in the late afternoon, when the low sun lights the rock faces. Changing cloud over the peaks often says more about the day ahead than any forecast. Depending on the view, you may see hikers, the refuge area or shifting snow patches in the cooler months. Clear, settled weather is what most people hope for when watching.
Summer is the usual season for walking here, while late autumn and winter bring snow and reduced access, so check conditions before setting out. Local weather can change quickly at altitude, so watch the forecast on this page. Nearby on VizCams you can view the Glacier 3000 cameras about five to seven kilometres away and the Gryon cameras at Solalex and Frience, which give wider alpine perspectives.
A live look is a practical way to judge whether the trail is clear and whether cloud is sitting low. Use it alongside the weather block to decide the timing of your day rather than relying on the valley forecast alone.
