Belalp - Hohbiel
🇨🇭 Valais · Switzerland — Altitude 2668 m
This camera looks out over the high Alpine terrain above Belalp, a car-free village on a sunny terrace in the Valais canton of Switzerland. It is a useful window for judging mountain conditions, cloud and snow from a distance. Watch it to plan a walk or to see how the weather is moving over the peaks.
Belalp sits on a balcony above the Lötschental and the Aletsch region in the Swiss Alps, at roughly 2,000 metres and above. The village is reached by cable car from Blatten, and no private cars are allowed up the slope. The surroundings are big rock faces, glaciers and pine-dotted meadows, with the Aletsch Glacier, the largest in the Alps, nearby. The atmosphere is quiet and very Alpine.
The title points to the Hohbiel area, so the view is most likely of open mountain ground rather than the village streets. Depending on the view, you may see ridges, snowfields and cloud drifting over the valley. Mornings often bring clear air and sharp light on the peaks, while afternoons can build cloud quickly. Summer and autumn are the most varied periods for watching changes in the sky.
Summer is the main season for walking here, usually from June to September, while winter brings skiing and snow-covered slopes. Mountain weather can change within an hour, so check the forecast shown on this page before setting out. Nearby cameras on the Aletsch ridge and at Riederalp and Bettmeralp offer alternative views of the same region.

The current conditions and a three-day forecast are shown in the weather block on this page. Because the camera sits at high altitude, temperatures and cloud can differ noticeably from the valley.
The local time for Belalp is displayed on this page and follows the Swiss time zone. It is the same as in most of central Europe.
The camera is in the Belalp area above the Lötschental in the Valais Alps of Switzerland, at about 2,668 metres altitude. The map on this page shows its exact position.
Clear mornings in summer and autumn tend to give the sharpest views of the peaks. In winter, the snow cover changes the look of the scene and is worth watching on sunny days.
