Kuźnice - Kolej na Kasprowy Wierch
🇵🇱 Lesser Poland · Poland — Altitude 1014 m
This camera watches the Kuźnice station at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, where the cable car sets off for Kasprowy Wierch. It is useful for seeing whether the lower slopes are clear, how busy the queue is and what the sky looks like above the peaks.
Kuźnice is a village on the edge of Zakopane, the main mountain resort of southern Poland. It sits at roughly 1,000 metres, where the High Tatras rise steeply behind the wooden houses. The area is known for hiking, alpine scenery and the traditional highland architecture of the Podhale region. Because the peaks are close, weather can change quickly, and the mountains often shape the day's plans more than the town does.
The camera points at the station and the approach to the cable car, so the view depends on the angle and the weather. Clear mornings tend to give the sharpest view of the ridges, while low cloud can hide the upper slopes for hours. Watch early in the morning in winter, when the lift often has the most activity before the snow-covered trails fill up. Afternoons in summer can bring sudden storms, which are worth checking before you travel.
Zakopane is about 100 kilometres south of Kraków and is reachable by train or bus. The Tatra climate is cold and windy even in summer, so bring layers and waterproof clothing, and check the forecast on this page before setting out. Late June to September suits hiking, while December to March suits skiing. Nearby cameras include the Wielka Krokiew ski jump and the Nosal slope view, which help you judge conditions across the town.
