This live camera looks out over Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, set high in the Peruvian Andes. Watch the city's roofs, streets and surrounding hills as the light changes through the day. The page also shows local time and the weather for Cusco right now.
Cusco sits in a valley of the southern Peruvian Andes at roughly 3,400 metres above sea level. It was the centre of the Inca Empire, and its stone walls, colonial churches and red-tiled roofs blend Inca and Spanish colonial architecture. The city is the usual starting point for trips to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, and its high-altitude setting gives it a distinct, crisp atmosphere.
The camera is a live feed from the Cusco region, and the view is most rewarding in clear morning light, when the surrounding mountains are easiest to make out. Afternoon clouds often build over the peaks during the wet season, so the view can change quickly. Evening brings warm lights across the city, and the stream is worth checking at dusk for a sense of how the town settles for the night.
Cusco has a highland climate with a dry season from roughly May to September, when days are sunny and nights are cold. The wet season from about November to March brings frequent afternoon showers and greener hillsides. Because of the altitude, visitors are advised to take it easy on arrival and drink plenty of water. The page's weather block gives current conditions and the forecast for the coming days.
