This live stream looks out over Corniglia, the only one of the five Cinque Terre villages that sits on a headland high above the sea. Watch it to see how the village and its coastline look right now before you plan a walk along the terraced hills.
Corniglia stands on a rocky promontory about 100 metres above the Ligurian Sea, in the Cinque Terre national park on Italy's Riviera di Levante. It is the smallest and least accessible of the five villages, reached by a long flight of steps from the railway station below. Its pastel houses, narrow lanes and vineyard terraces give it a quieter character than its neighbours, and the surrounding landscape is shaped by centuries of hand-built dry-stone walls.
The stream follows the village and the coast beyond it, so the sea's colour and the state of the water are the main things to observe. Mornings often bring clear views along the shoreline, while late afternoon light warms the houses and hills. Weather changes quickly on this coast, so the view can shift from bright to hazy within an hour. Check the live weather block on this page before you watch.
The best months for walking the coastal paths are spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild and the trails are less crowded. Summers are warm and busy, and winters are cooler and wetter. Corniglia is easily combined with nearby Manarola, about 2 km away, Vernazza, 3 km, and Riomaggiore, 4 km, all reachable by train or on foot along the famous Via dell'Amore and coastal trails.
