🇮🇹 Liguria · Italy — Altitude 38 m
This live stream looks over the small harbour of Vernazza, one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast. It is a good way to see how the sea and the village are behaving before deciding on a walk or a boat trip.
Vernazza sits in a narrow valley where the streams reach the Ligurian Sea, with tall pastel houses stacked up the slopes and a small rocky harbour at the foot of the old town. The Cinque Terre are known for their terraced vineyards, footpaths along the cliffs and a coastline that has kept much of its traditional character. The village is compact, so the harbour is never far from the main lanes and the cafés along the water.
Depending on the view, you may see boats entering or leaving the harbour, fishing boats resting on the quay, and the sea changing colour as the light moves across the water. Mornings are usually calm and quiet, while afternoons in summer bring more visitors and boat traffic. Rougher sea conditions after strong winds are often visible here, which is useful to know if you plan to take a ferry along the coast.
The Ligurian coast has mild winters and warm, fairly dry summers, and the shoulder seasons of late spring and early autumn are often the most pleasant for walking the trails. Vernazza is connected to its neighbouring villages by train and by sea, and nearby views from Monterosso, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore can help you compare conditions along the coast.
