Mont-Aigoual - Climatographe
🇫🇷 Occitania · France — Altitude 1567 m
This live camera looks out from Mont Aigoual, one of the highest points in the Cévennes mountains in southern France. It is a useful window onto mountain conditions, cloud and visibility above the surrounding ridges. People often watch it before planning a hike or drive into the high Cévennes.
Mont Aigoual rises to about 1,567 metres in the Gard department of Occitania, close to the boundary with Hérault. It is best known as the site of a long-running weather observatory, and the mountain is famous for being one of the wettest places in France, with heavy rain and fog common on its slopes. The surrounding landscape is a mix of beech and fir woodland, open upland and deep valleys, and the Cévennes National Park lies around it.
The view depends on the weather. On clear days you may see long ridges and distant valleys stretching away from the summit, while on other days cloud can roll in quickly and hide everything for hours. Mornings often bring the clearest air, and changing cloud over the ridges is the thing to watch here. Seasons change the scene noticeably, from green summers to snowy winter spells.
Summers are mild on the summit but conditions can change within minutes, so layers and waterproofs are sensible even in warm months. Late spring and early autumn are often the most settled periods for visiting. The nearby cameras on the same summit and at the Prat Peyrot weather station show related views from slightly different points.
