This camera looks out from Sljeme, the highest point of the Medvednica range above Croatia's capital. The live stream lets you check how the mountain and the city below look right now, before deciding on a walk or a drive up. Local time and weather are shown alongside the video.
Sljeme sits at about 1,025 metres on Medvednica, the forested mountain that rises just north of Zagreb. It is the city's closest real mountain, and for generations people have come up here to escape the lowland heat, hike the ridge trails and enjoy the views. The area is known for its beech and fir woods, its ski slopes in winter and its mix of mountain huts and restaurants along the summit roads.
The title names the summit itself, so the view is of the mountain top and the terrain around it rather than any specific landmark. Depending on the day, you may see the wooded slopes, the summit area and, in clear weather, the distant haze over the city. Mornings often bring the clearest air, while cloud and fog can roll over the ridge quickly, so the live picture is the best way to judge conditions.
Zagreb has a continental climate with warm summers and cold, sometimes snowy winters, so the mountain is cooler than the city by a noticeable margin, especially in the evening. Spring and autumn are popular for hiking, and winter brings snow to the slopes. Other VizCams views in the wider region include Ptuj, Virje in Podravina and Slunj, which are useful for comparing weather across Croatia.
