Portillo
🇨🇱 Valparaíso · Chile — Altitude 2880 m
This live camera looks up at the Portillo ski area in the high Andes of central Chile, roughly 2,880 metres above sea level. It is a useful way to judge snow cover, cloud and visibility on the slopes without waiting for a weather report. The stream is provided by the resort and shows the current conditions as they are.
Portillo sits on the border valley between Chile and Argentina, at the eastern end of the Aconcagua region. It is known as one of the oldest ski destinations in South America and is famous for its long runs and the turquoise Inca Lake, which lies beside the access road. The landscape is steep, bare rock and snowfields, with the Andes rising sharply on every side. The atmosphere is quiet and high-altitude, far from city noise.
Because the camera is aimed at a mountain resort, the most useful things to check are snow cover, cloud movement and how clear the peaks are. Mornings often offer the sharpest view before clouds build, while afternoons can bring fast changes in wind and visibility. Watching in the southern winter, roughly June to September, gives the best picture of the ski season. Summer views show bare slopes and hiking conditions instead.
Portillo has a mountain climate with cold nights and strong sun, even when the air feels mild. Conditions can change within an hour, so check the live view before planning a trip. Nearby resorts with their own cameras include La Parva, Valle Nevado and Santiago, which is about 78 km away. Those views help you compare snow and cloud across the Andes.
Compare the current picture with the forecast on this page to decide whether conditions are good. Clear skies with fresh snow are the best sign for skiing, while low cloud usually means limited visibility on the lifts. Keep in mind that the image is a single fixed viewpoint and does not show the entire resort.
