This live stream looks out from the Manzanito base area of La Parva, a ski resort in the Andes above Santiago. It is useful for checking snow and visibility before deciding whether to make the drive up the mountain. The page also shows current conditions and local time so you can plan around them.
La Parva sits in the high Andes of central Chile, roughly an hour's drive east of Santiago, at about 2,900 metres above sea level. It is one of the best known ski areas close to the capital, popular with visitors who want snow without travelling far from the city. The surroundings are steep, dry mountain terrain with rock, scrub and wide valleys, and the atmosphere changes quickly with altitude and season.
The view is taken from the base area, so you can judge the general conditions at the lower part of the resort: whether the slopes look covered, how clear the air is and what the weather is doing above. Depending on the view, you may notice fresh snowfall, wind moving snow across the ground or fog rolling in. Mornings are often the clearest time, while afternoon cloud can build quickly in the mountains.
Winter from roughly June to September is the main ski season, and the best snow usually comes after storms in the middle of the season. Because of the altitude, temperatures can drop sharply and sun is strong, so layers and sun protection are important. Nearby cameras on this page cover the summit at Cima Tórtolas, the ski school area and Parva Chica, which help you compare conditions across the resort.
