Schlegeis - Lac de barrage - Alpes de Zillertal - vue vers le sud
🇦🇹 Tyrol · Austria — Altitude 1840 m
This camera looks south over the Schlegeis reservoir, a high-altitude dam lake in the Zillertal Alps of Tyrol. It is a useful window onto the mountain weather and the state of the water in one of the most dramatic valleys in Austria.
The Schlegeis reservoir sits at about 1,840 metres in the Zillertal Alps, held back by a large concrete dam that was built to generate hydroelectric power. The surrounding landscape is steep and rocky, with glaciers and peaks rising above the water. The valley road ends near the lake, which gives the area a quiet, remote feel compared with the busier villages lower down the Zillertal.
Depending on the view, the image may show the lake surface, the slopes around it and the mountain ridges to the south. Clear mornings tend to bring the sharpest light on the peaks, while afternoon cloud often builds over the high ground. Changes in water level and the colour of the lake can vary through the season, so repeat visits can reveal how the reservoir shifts over time.
Summers are mild and short at this altitude, and the snow often lingers into late spring. Late June to September is generally the most accessible period for walks and drives in the valley. The Hintertux glacier area and the Berliner Hütte region lie within a short distance, and the nearby cameras listed on this page show those locations as well.
