This live camera looks out over Alpine, a small town in western Wyoming where the Snake River valley meets the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It is a practical way to check conditions before heading into the area or simply to see what the sky and mountains look like today.
Alpine sits at roughly 1,700 metres in the Snake River country, close to the Idaho border. The town is a gateway to the Palisades area and to the mountain landscape around Jackson Hole. The scenery is dominated by river valleys, conifer forests and rugged peaks, and the air is clear and dry for much of the year.
The view is a mountain-category feed, so you can expect to see the surrounding terrain, the sky and changing weather over the valley. Depending on the angle, you may notice snow on the high ground in winter, green slopes in early summer and strong contrast when clouds build over the peaks in the afternoon. Early morning and late afternoon light are often the most rewarding times to look.
Winters are cold and snowy, while summers are warm during the day and cool at night because of the altitude. Late spring through early autumn is the usual period for hiking and river activities. Nearby cameras in the region include the Snake River view, the Hoback River feed and the Jackson Hole camera, which together give a broader picture of local conditions.
