This live camera looks out over Dubois, a small town in the Wind River country of western Wyoming. Its high mountain setting makes the view a useful check on weather and light before heading into the surrounding ranges. Use the page to see conditions as they are now.
Dubois sits in a broad valley at roughly 2,125 metres, ringed by the Absaroka and Wind River ranges. It is best known as a gateway to wilderness areas, the National Bighorn Sheep Interpretive Center and some of the best big-game country in the state. The landscape is wide, dry and open, with sagebrush flats giving way to forested slopes and rocky peaks. Its quiet, rural character is part of the appeal.
Depending on the view, the camera may show the town, nearby slopes and changing skies. Mountain weather can shift quickly, so clouds building over the peaks in the afternoon are common in summer. Early morning and late evening usually bring the softest light and the clearest air. Snow can arrive early and linger, so winter views may look very different from summer ones.
Summers are warm during the day and cool at night, while winters are long, cold and snowy. The best time to visit for hiking and outdoor activity is typically from late June to early September. Dubois is a short drive from the trailheads of the surrounding wilderness. Nearby cameras on this site include Togwotee Mountain Lodge, Moran and a Hoback River view in the Yellowstone region.
