This live camera looks over the downtown area of Blowing Rock, a mountain town in the Blue Ridge foothills of northwestern North Carolina. It is a useful way to check how the town looks right now before you drive up. The page also shows local time and the weather for the town.
Blowing Rock sits at roughly 1,089 metres above sea level on the Blue Ridge Escarpment, and it has drawn visitors since the nineteenth century for its cool summers and mountain scenery. The town is known for the Blowing Rock itself, a sheer cliff over the Johns River Gorge, and for its compact centre of galleries, shops and restaurants. The landscape is forested and hilly, with views stretching across the valleys.
Because the view is of the town centre, you can follow the flow of traffic, the street activity and the way the weather moves through the valley. Depending on the season, the view can change a lot, from green summer foliage to bare trees and snow in winter. Mornings and late afternoons often give the clearest light, and cloud and fog are common at higher elevations, so the picture can change quickly.
Summers are mild and pleasant, while winters are cold and snow is possible. Autumn colours in October are a popular reason to visit. Nearby cameras on this page include the Appalachian Ski Mountain ice skating and slope views, about 5 km away, and the Highway 105 view in Foscoe, about 8 km away, which can help you judge road and mountain conditions before travelling.
