This live camera looks out over Loon Mountain, a ski and four-season resort in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It is a useful window for anyone planning a trip or simply curious about snow, foliage or mountain weather from a distance.
Loon Mountain sits in the Lincoln area of central New Hampshire, a few kilometres from the Pemigewasset River valley. The White Mountains are known for steep ridges, forests of birch, maple and spruce, and some of the most changeable weather in the northeastern United States. The resort is a short drive from the towns of Lincoln and North Woodstock and forms part of the region's outdoor recreation landscape.
Depending on the view, the stream may show slopes, lifts, the base area or the surrounding forest. The scene changes most with the seasons: in winter you may notice snow cover and snowmaking activity, in autumn the colours of the foliage, and in spring and summer the green canopy. Early mornings and clear afternoons tend to give the sharpest views, while low cloud can hide the upper mountain for long periods.
The region has cold winters, warm and humid summers and a famously strong autumn leaf season, usually peaking in late September and October. Snow can fall from November into spring. Nearby cameras on the Mount Washington summit area and in North Conway show how conditions can differ across the White Mountains, which can be much colder and windier at higher elevations.
