About Boulder City and Lake Mead
Boulder City sits on a bench of the Black Mountains about 35 kilometres southeast of Las Vegas. The town was built in the 1930s to house workers on the Hoover Dam project, and it still keeps stricter zoning than most Nevada towns. Lake Mead, formed by the dam, is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the United States. Its shoreline is ringed by bare rock, washes and creosote scrub, and the water shifts colour with the light and the wind.
