Zermatt - Sunnegga
🇨🇭 Valais · Switzerland — Altitude 2290 m
This live camera looks out from Sunnegga, a station above Zermatt in the Swiss Alps at about 2,290 metres. It gives a sense of the mountain conditions in the valley before you travel. The page also shows the local time and forecast so you can plan a day on the slopes or a walk.
Zermatt is a car-free mountain village in the canton of Valais, set at the foot of the Matterhorn, one of the most recognised peaks in Europe. Sunnegga sits on the slopes above the village and is reached by funicular, which makes it a common starting point for hikes and ski runs. The surroundings are alpine meadows, pine forests and glaciers, and the air and light change quickly with altitude.
The camera is a live view from a mountain location, so the picture depends on weather, cloud cover and the time of day. Clear mornings often bring crisp views of the high peaks, while afternoons may bring cloud build-up over the ridges. Winter snow and summer green slopes give very different scenes, so the season is worth checking. You may see skiers, hikers or cable cars depending on the conditions.
Zermatt has a mild summer and a snowy winter, and the best months for hiking are usually July to September, while the ski season runs roughly from December to April. Getting to Sunnegga usually means the Gornergrat or village funicular connections, and parts of the area are only reached on foot or by train. Other cameras nearby include Blauherd, the Hôtel Schönegg view and the Matterhorn camera.
