Zermatt - Blauherd
🇨🇭 Valais · Switzerland — Altitude 2582 m
This live camera looks out from the Blauherd area above Zermatt, a car-free village in the Swiss Alps at about 2,582 metres. It is useful for seeing how the mountains look right now before you plan a walk, a ride up the lifts or a day in the valley. The page adds local time and weather so you can judge conditions alongside the picture.
Zermatt sits in the Matter Valley in the canton of Valais, at the foot of the Matterhorn, one of the most recognisable peaks in the Alps. The village is known for its traditional wooden chalets, the absence of petrol cars and a dense network of cable cars and mountain railways. The surrounding landscape is glaciers, alpine meadows and steep rock faces, and the air feels noticeably thinner than in the lowlands.
The camera is set on a high mountain viewpoint, so the view depends heavily on cloud and visibility. Clear mornings often show the peaks in sharp light, while afternoons can bring cloud build-up that hides the summits. Late in the day the light turns warm on the rock faces. Watch for fresh snow in winter and the green-and-flower period of summer, when the lower slopes are most colourful.
Zermatt is reached by train from Visp, and the village itself is walked or cycled, with electric taxis and carts for luggage. Weather in the high Alps can change quickly, so layers and sun protection are sensible in any season. Nearby cameras on VizCams include Rothorn and Sunnegga, which show other parts of the same mountain area, and the Matterhorn view from the village.
