La Punt - Wasserreservoir
🇨🇭 Graubünden · Switzerland
This camera looks out over the water reservoir at La Punt, a village in the Upper Engadine valley of Graubünden. It is useful for checking how the lake and surrounding mountains look right now before you plan a walk, a drive or a day on the water. The live player, local time and weather for La Punt are all on this page.
La Punt Chamues-ch lies on the valley floor of the Upper Engadine, a high Alpine basin in the canton of Graubünden in eastern Switzerland. The village is known for its traditional Engadine houses with thick walls and painted sgraffito facades, and for the Inn river that runs through the valley. The reservoir is a man-made body of water used for hydroelectric power, and it gives the valley a calm, reflective surface that changes with the wind and light.
The camera shows the water and the slopes around it, so the view changes mostly with weather and light. Clear mornings often bring still water and sharp reflections of the peaks, while afternoon wind can ruffle the surface. In winter, snow and ice may cover the banks, and in summer the green meadows stand out. Depending on the view, you may see boats, birds or cloud shadows moving across the mountains. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the most atmospheric times to watch.
The Upper Engadine has a dry, sunny Alpine climate with cold winters and mild, bright summers, and the valley receives plenty of sunshine throughout the year. Summer is good for hiking and lake walks, while winter brings skiing to the nearby resorts. The main ski areas and viewpoints are close by, and cameras at Muottas Muragl, Corviglia and St. Moritz are within roughly ten kilometres, which makes them useful for comparing conditions higher up the valley.
Because the valley is small and the altitude changes quickly, weather can differ considerably between the reservoir and the peaks above. Checking this camera together with the weather block on this page gives a good picture of what to expect before you travel. Mountain conditions can change within an hour, so the live view is most useful shortly before you set out.
