This live camera looks out from Pfingstegg, a mountain station above the village of Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland. The live player, local time and forecast on this page update while you watch.

About Grindelwald and the Pfingstegg

Grindelwald sits at about 1,000 metres in a broad valley beneath the north face of the Eiger, with the Wetterhorn and Schreckhorn rising on the opposite side. The village is known as a base for alpine hiking and mountaineering and as a stop on the route to the Jungfraujoch. Pfingstegg lies above the village at roughly 1,400 metres, reached by gondola, and is a common starting point for walks over the meadows toward the valley views.

What the camera shows and when to watch

The view from this high station is framed by the mountains and the valley floor, and its appearance depends heavily on cloud, snow and light. Clear mornings tend to bring the sharpest outlines of the peaks, while afternoon cloud often builds over the ridges in summer. In winter the slopes and roofs below may be white, so the camera is useful for judging snow conditions. Watch the weather block on this page alongside the picture to see how conditions are changing.

Practical notes and nearby cameras

Grindelwald has a temperate alpine climate, with mild summers that suit hiking and cold, snowy winters that suit skiing. Summer and early autumn are the most popular seasons for walking, while winter brings the ski areas into full use. Nearby on VizCams you can also view the Kirchbühl hotel, the Bäregg area and the Kreuz & Post and Belvedere hotels in the village.
