Local time UTC+1Checked 0 viewsHDMountains

This live camera looks out from the Bäregg area above Grindelwald, a village in the Bernese Oberland at about 1,810 metres. It is useful for checking how the mountains look right now before planning a walk, a train ride or a day in the Jungfrau region.

About Grindelwald

Grindelwald sits in a broad valley beneath the north face of the Eiger, with the Wetterhorn and Schreckhorn rising on the other side. It is one of the best-known alpine resorts in Switzerland and a starting point for trips to the Jungfraujoch and the First ski area. The village is small and car-free in its centre, so the surrounding meadows and glaciers are what most visitors come to see.

What the camera shows

The title places this camera on the Bäregg mountain above the village, so the view is of the high Alpine terrain rather than the streets below. Depending on the view, you may see rock faces, snowfields, cloud moving over the ridges or the valley floor in haze. Mornings often give the clearest air, while afternoon clouds frequently build over the peaks in summer.

Climate and getting there

Summers are mild and bright, with daytime temperatures at this altitude usually comfortable for hiking, while winters bring heavy snow and a busy ski season. The best time for clear views is generally late spring to early autumn. Grindelwald is reached by train from Interlaken, and the nearby Pfingstegg, Kirchbühl and Mittellegihütte cameras show other parts of the same valley.
