Adelboden - Engstligenalp
🇨🇭 Bern · Switzerland — Altitude 1980 m
This live camera looks out over the Engstligenalp, a high alpine plateau above the village of Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland. It is a practical way to see the mountain conditions before you climb or ski. The stream is embedded from its source, so the picture comes directly from the camera owner.
Adelboden sits in the Simmental valley of the Bernese Oberland, and the Engstligenalp rises above it at roughly 1980 metres. The plateau is a wide, open meadow of grass and rock, popular with hikers and families in summer and with winter sports visitors when snow covers the slopes. The surrounding peaks give the area a quiet, spacious character that changes noticeably from one season to the next.
The view is a mountain landscape, so the most useful moments are early morning, when light first reaches the peaks, and late afternoon, when shadows lengthen across the plateau. Clouds often build during the day in summer, so the camera is handy for judging whether the weather is clearing. In winter the snow cover and visibility are the main things to check before travelling up.
The region has a mild alpine climate, with warm summers that are best for walking and cooler, snowy winters that suit skiing. Late June to September is the usual choice for hiking, while December to March is the season for snow sports. Adelboden is reachable by road and by public transport, and nearby cameras cover Höchstbahn, Sillerenbühl and the Metschstand in Lenk im Simmental.
