This live stream looks out over Pilanesberg National Park, a game reserve in South Africa's North West province. It is a place to check how the bush looks right now and whether conditions suit a visit. The page also gives local time and weather so you can plan around the day.
Pilanesberg lies in the crater of an ancient volcano, a ring of hills around a broad basin of savannah and bushveld. It sits about two hours' drive north-west of Johannesburg and is one of the best-known wildlife parks in the country. Its mix of grassland, woodland and rocky outcrops supports a wide range of animals, and the reserve is often visited as an easier alternative to the larger parks further north.
Because the camera is part of a lodge's live feed, you may see the bush and waterholes depending on the angle at any given moment. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the most active times for animals, when the light is softer and temperatures are lower. The dry winter months, roughly May to September, tend to bring animals closer to water and make wildlife easier to spot, while the green season brings lush vegetation and dramatic skies.
The region has a subtropical highveld climate with hot summers and mild, dry winters, and most rain falls between November and March. The best time to visit is generally the dry season. Pilanesberg is around 117 km from the Madikwe camera and about 122 km from the Pretoria camera, both listed on this site for comparison of conditions across the region.
