This live camera looks over Kvitfjell, a mountain and ski area in the Gudbrandsdalen valley of Innlandet county in southern Norway. It is useful for seeing the mountain as it is right now, whether cloud is sitting on the slopes or the snow is clear. The stream is provided by its owner and embedded here with a link to the original source.
Kvitfjell sits at around 920 metres above sea level, in the hills above the Gudbrandsdalen valley, roughly a few hours' drive north of Oslo. It is best known as a downhill ski resort that has hosted Alpine World Cup races, and in summer the surrounding high country is quiet forest, lakes and open ground typical of inland Norway. The atmosphere is calm and rural, with the valley below and the mountains rising behind it.
The view is most interesting in winter, when the slopes are covered and skiers are active, and in the long light of spring and early summer. Depending on the angle and weather, you may see cloud moving across the peaks, changing snow cover, or the clearing of fog from the valley. Watching at different times of day shows how the light shifts over the mountain, and the local time and weather blocks on this page help you judge conditions before you look.
Winter is the main season for visiting, with reliable snow usually from December into March, while summer suits hiking and cycling in the surrounding hills. Expect cold, changeable weather at altitude even in summer, and check the forecast below before travelling. Nearby cameras include Skeikampen, Hafjell and Γyer, which are useful if you want to compare conditions across the region.
