This live camera looks out over Kristiansand, the largest city on Norway's southern coast. The stream lets you check the harbour area, the sky and the sea conditions before you travel or simply to see how the city looks today. The weather and local time on this page update alongside the picture.
Kristiansand sits at the mouth of the Otra river on the Skagerrak, the strait between southern Norway and Denmark. It is known as Norway's summer city, with a sheltered waterfront, a long sandy coastline nearby and an old town laid out on a grid of streets. The landscape around it mixes low granite hills, pine forest and open sea, which gives the city a relaxed, maritime character.
The view is most rewarding on clear summer days, when the water is busy with boats and people use the promenade and beaches. In the long evenings of June and July the light lasts well past nine, which makes the coast especially pleasant to observe. Autumn and winter views tend to be quieter, with changing cloud, wind on the water and shorter days, and they can be just as interesting for watching weather come in.
The climate is mild for Norway thanks to the Gulf Stream, though winters are cool and wet and summers are usually comfortable rather than hot. Summer is the most popular time to visit. Other live cameras in the wider region include Grimstad at Eide, about 28 km to the west, and Lindesnes, further along the coast, which together give a picture of the southern shoreline.
