This live camera looks out over the waters of Tokyo Bay, one of the busiest coastlines in Japan. It is useful for checking how the bay looks right now, whether the sea is calm, and what the sky is doing above the capital. The page also shows local time and weather so you can plan a visit or simply see the conditions.
Tokyo Bay is a large inlet on the Pacific coast of central Honshu, bordered by the Chiba peninsula to the east and the reclaimed districts of the city to the west. The shoreline has changed a great deal over the past century, with much of the waterfront built on land reclaimed from the sea. Ferries, cargo ships and leisure boats move across the water, and the bay is one of the main gateways to the metropolitan area. Its mood shifts quickly, from busy harbour traffic to quiet, reflective stretches at dawn.
Depending on the view, you may see the water surface, passing vessels, the sky over the bay and the line of the opposite shore. Early morning and late afternoon usually bring the softest light and calmer water, while clear days tend to show the horizon most sharply. Rain or haze can reduce visibility over the bay, so the weather block on this page is worth checking before you watch. Sunsets over the water are often the most rewarding moments to tune in.
Tokyo has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers, mild spring and autumn, and cool, mostly dry winters. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons for seeing the waterfront. Nearby, the Tokyo Waterfront cameras and other Tokyo city cameras in the region give a wider picture of the same coastline. Public transport across the city makes the bay area easy to reach on foot or by train.
