Tokyo - Odaiba - Rainbow Bridge
🇯🇵 Tokyo · Japan — Altitude 4 m
This live camera looks toward the Rainbow Bridge, the illuminated suspension bridge linking Tokyo Bay to the Odaiba waterfront district. It is a useful window on Tokyo's harbour skyline, with traffic and weather visible as they change through the day.
Odaiba is a artificial island district in Tokyo Bay, built on reclaimed land in the nineteenth century as a coastal defence and later developed into a leisure and shopping area. The Rainbow Bridge, opened in 1993, carries the Metropolitan Expressway across the bay and is one of the city's best-known landmarks. The waterfront mixes modern architecture, parks and the wide water of the bay, giving the district an open, breezy character quite unlike central Tokyo.
The view centres on the bridge and the bay, so the most rewarding moments are usually early evening, when the bridge lighting comes on and reflections spread across the water. Daytime shows shipping traffic, the bridge's road traffic and changing cloud over the bay. Clear nights tend to be the most striking, while rain or haze can soften the scene. Conditions depend on the view at any given moment.
Tokyo has humid summers, with the rainy season in June and early July, and mild, drier winters, so spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable seasons for a visit to the waterfront. Odaiba is reached easily by rail and monorail from central Tokyo. Nearby cameras on the same waterfront include the Odaiba Marine Park, a general Tokyo view, the Hamamatsuchō railway tracks and another waterfront camera.
