This live camera looks out over Nagawa, a small town in Nagano Prefecture in central Honshu. It is a useful window onto mountain conditions at about 1,000 metres, where weather can change quickly. Check the live stream, then the forecast below to plan your day.
Nagawa sits on a high plateau in Nagano Prefecture, surrounded by the foothills of the Japanese Alps and the wider Chubu region. The area is known for its clean air, agriculture and access to mountain lakes and onsen towns. Its altitude of around 1,000 metres gives it cooler summers than the cities of the Kanto plain and snowy winters. The landscape is largely rural, with forest, fields and the outlines of distant ridges.
The view is most rewarding in the early morning and late afternoon, when low light brings out the shapes of the surrounding hills. Depending on the view, you may see changing cloud over the ridges, morning mist in the valleys or the first snow of autumn and winter. Seasonal shifts are the main attraction: green in summer, colourful foliage in autumn and white in winter. Weather changes are often visible on the camera before they reach the valley below.
Winters are cold and snowy, while summers are mild and pleasant, which makes late spring through early autumn the most comfortable season for visiting. Nagawa is reached by road and rail from Nagano city and Ueda. For a broader look at the area, the nearby cameras at Utsukushigahara, Tateshina, Kamisuwa and Komoro show other parts of the region within roughly 18 kilometres.
