This live camera follows the Schnalstaler Glacier cable car in the high Alps of South Tyrol, Italy. It is useful for seeing current mountain conditions before you head up to the glacier ski area. The stream is provided by its operator and embedded here with a link to the source.
Schnals is a side valley of the Vinschgau in South Tyrol, running up toward the Italian-Austrian border. The area is known for its glaciers, high pastures and the ancient Ötzi discovery site near the Similaun. The valley has a quiet, rural character, with farms and orchards on the lower slopes giving way to rocky terrain and ice at altitude. Its position close to the main Alpine ridge makes it a popular base for mountain walkers and skiers.
As a cable car camera, the view is oriented toward the mountain station and the slopes it serves. Depending on the angle, you may see passing gondola cabins, snow cover and the mountain weather as it changes. Mornings often bring the clearest air, while afternoon cloud can build quickly over the peaks. Winter and early spring are the most interesting seasons for watching snow conditions on the glacier.
The glacier is reachable from Schnals by cable car, and the valley is best visited in late spring for skiing and in summer for hiking. Summers are cool at altitude, so bring layers even on sunny days. Other cameras in the area include Schnals Grawand, Kurzras Maso Corto and the Lazaun mountain station, which give a wider picture of the valley's conditions.
