Kaunertal - Gletscherzentrum
🇦🇹 Tyrol · Austria
This live camera points toward the Kaunertal glacier centre in the Austrian Tyrol, a high alpine valley known for its ski terrain on the ice. The stream lets you judge snow cover, cloud and visibility at a glance. It is useful for planning a day trip or simply watching mountain weather move in.
Kaunertal runs south from the Inn valley into the Ötztal Alps and ends in a basin of glaciers and rock. The area is known for its year-round skiing on the Gepatschferner and for the Gepatsch reservoir dam, one of the larger structures in western Austria. The landscape is stark and open, with few villages and a strong sense of altitude. The valley road climbs steeply above the tree line, so conditions change quickly from the valley floor to the glacier.
The camera is aimed at the glacier centre and its surroundings, so the view mainly reflects snow surfaces, ridgelines and sky. Depending on the angle, you may see lifts, piste markings or the slopes above them. Mornings after fresh snow often bring the clearest light, while afternoons can bring cloud build-up over the peaks. For judging whether the glacier is open or the weather is clearing, the stream is most helpful in the first hours of daylight.
Summers are cool and short at this altitude, and winters are long with heavy snowfall. Late spring and early autumn are often calm but can bring sudden storms. The valley is reached by road from the Inn valley near Prutz, and the nearby Nauders and Schnals valleys can be visited on the same trip. Check the forecast on this page before setting out.

The current conditions and a 3-day forecast are shown in the live weather block on this page. Because the site is high in the Alps, it can differ noticeably from the valley below.
The local time for Kaunertal is displayed on this page and follows Central European Time with daylight saving, the same as Italy and Austria.
The camera is at the Kaunertal glacier centre in the Tyrol region of western Austria, near the head of the valley. The map on this page marks its position.
Early morning is usually the clearest, and clear winter or spring days show the snow surfaces best. Watching during a snowfall or a clearing front can also be interesting.
