This camera looks toward Mount Vesuvius from the town of Ottaviano on the southern slopes of the volcano, in the Campania region. It suits anyone curious about one of Europe's best-known volcanoes, or planning a trip to the Naples area and wanting to check the sky and visibility first.
About the volcano and its setting
Vesuvius rises above the Bay of Naples, about 1,280 metres high, and is best known for the eruption of 79 AD that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum. Ottaviano sits on its lower southern flank, among vineyards, orchards and farmland that grow on volcanic soil. The landscape is shaped by the mountain, and the summit is often the most striking feature of the view when the air is clear.
What the camera shows and when to watch
The title names the volcano, so the view is expected to center on Vesuvius and its slopes, though the exact framing depends on the camera. Clear mornings and late afternoons often give the best light and visibility, while cloud and haze can hide the summit for hours. Watching around sunrise or sunset is a good way to see how the light changes across the mountain.
Practical notes and nearby views
The Naples area has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm, dry summers, so spring and autumn are comfortable for visiting. Several other cameras are close by, including the Torre del Greco live view of Monte Vesuvio, a view from Naples itself, and a Vésuve camera about 14 km away. Together they give a useful range of angles on the volcano and the bay.
