About Gunungkidul

Gunungkidul is a regency in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, stretching inland from the Indian Ocean coast. Much of the land is karst, with limestone hills, dry valleys and caves, and the region has long had a reputation for water scarcity in its dry seasons. Ngawen sits in the northern part of the regency, where the landscape is gentler and the pace of life slower than in the city of Yogyakarta.
