This live camera looks over the western side of the marina at La Grande-Motte, a planned seaside resort on the Languedoc coast of southern France. It is a handy way to see how the water and boats look before you plan a day by the sea. The stream is shown directly on this page, with local time and weather alongside it.
La Grande-Motte was built in the 1960s as one of the new seaside resorts created along the Languedoc-Roussillon coast. Its distinctive pyramid-shaped apartment blocks rise from flat land between the Mediterranean and the saltwater lagoons of the Camargue. The town is closely tied to boating, and its harbour is the centre of much of the summer activity. Visitors come for the long sandy beaches, the marina and the wide open horizon.
As this is a port camera, the most useful things to watch are the movement of boats entering and leaving the marina, the state of the water and the wind direction over the basin. The view is most lively in the morning and late afternoon, when fishing and pleasure boats come and go. Clear days tend to give the best visibility out to sea, while overcast or windy weather changes the colour of the water noticeably. Check the weather block on this page before you decide what to expect.
The Mediterranean climate means hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters, so late spring and early autumn are often pleasant for walking and boating. Getting around is easiest by car or bicycle, since the resort is flat and compact. Nearby, you can compare the marina with the Port de Plaisance camera in La Grande-Motte itself, and with the Les Bains de Camargue camera in Le Grau-du-Roi, about six kilometres away.
