This live camera follows the cable car route on Sněžka, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, in the Krkonoše range on the Czech-Polish border. It is a quick way to judge whether the mountain is clear, misty or snowy before you plan a visit. The live player is embedded from the source, and the local weather and time sit right below it.
Sněžka rises to about 1,600 metres on the Czech-Polish frontier and is the most prominent peak of the Krkonoše, also known as the Giant Mountains. The range is famous for its open alpine meadows, granite plateaus and dwarf pine, and the summit is a well-known landmark for hikers across the region. On clear days the view stretches far across the surrounding valleys.
Because the camera is aimed at the cable car, the most telling signs are the cabins and the cloud around the upper station. Mountain weather changes quickly, so watching a few minutes can show whether fog is lifting or building. Autumn colours and winter snow usually make the scene most interesting, and clear early mornings often give the best visibility. The image is shown in HD as provided by the source.
The Krkonoše are best visited in summer for hiking and in winter for skiing, while the shoulder seasons can be windy and wet near the top. Dress in layers, as the summit can be several degrees colder than the valley towns. Nearby cameras show Pec pod Sněžkou, the village at the foot of the mountain, as well as Velká Úpa and the Karpacz lifts on the Polish side of the range.
