This live camera looks out over Elliot Lake, a small city on the Canadian Shield in northern Ontario. Watch the stream to get a sense of the lake and landscape in real time, and check local conditions before planning a trip or simply following the seasons from afar.
Elliot Lake sits in the Algoma District, surrounded by granite outcrops, boreal forest and a chain of lakes typical of the Canadian Shield. The town grew up around mining in the twentieth century and today is known mainly as a base for outdoor recreation, with trails, paddling and fishing close at hand. The landscape changes noticeably between the open water of summer and the frozen lakes of winter.
The view is based on the lake and its surroundings, so the picture will mostly reflect light, cloud and water conditions. Mornings and evenings tend to bring the most contrast, while autumn colours in the surrounding forest can make the scene especially striking. Winter brings snow and ice, which can change the view completely. The live stream is provided by the camera owner and shows conditions as they are at that moment.
Summers are mild and comfortable, with long daylight hours, while winters are cold and snowy. Many visitors come between late June and September for hiking and water activities, and autumn is popular for its foliage. Nearby Sault Ste. Marie is roughly a hundred kilometres away and offers the regional services. The other cameras listed on this page show the wider area and are useful for comparing conditions.
