Ramsau/Dachstein - Dachstein
🇦🇹 Styria · Austria — Altitude 2700 m
This live camera looks out over the Dachstein massif from the Ramsau side of the range, at about 2,700 metres. It is useful if you want to check high-alpine conditions before planning a day in the mountains or simply want to watch the peaks change with the light.
The Dachstein is a limestone massif on the border of Styria and Upper Austria, rising to over 2,900 metres. Ramsau am Dachstein lies at its northern foot and is known as a winter sports village with cross-country trails and a long tradition of skiing. The landscape is stark and sculpted, with karst plateaus, scree slopes and the Dachstein glacier, which is among the best-known snow fields in the Eastern Alps.
As a mountain camera, the view is dominated by rock, snow and sky. Depending on the view, you may see cloud building over the summits in the afternoon, fresh snow lying on the higher ridges in autumn and spring, or clear morning light on the faces. Weather changes quickly at this altitude, so the picture is often most interesting in the first hours of daylight and when cloud is moving through.
Summer is the main season for hiking and the mountain lifts, while winter brings skiing. Conditions at this height can differ sharply from the valley, so check the forecast shown on this page. Nearby cameras include the Schladming Hunerkogel mountain station, the Simonyhütte view over the Hallstatt glacier and the Rittisberg Beach camera in Ramsau.
